SEI MetalTek was founded in Houston, TX. by John R. Grace in 1966. Originally known as Spring Engineers, it was subsequently named SEI Holdings Corp. The company has grown over the years and has been involved in such diverse businesses as production machining, oil tool products, trench shoring devices, molded rubber products, electrical connectors, transformers, industrial real estate and venture capital investment.

In 1998 the company elected to focus exclusively on the metal fabrication, processing, and testing industries. It is the intent of SEI MetalTek to grow its business from current levels to between $50 million and $100 million in annual sales over the next 3 to 5 years. Growth will come internally from existing businesses as well as from selected acquisitions within targeted industries.
